Lighting and Lightroom ~ A Digital Portrait Clinic

Join Dave Hutt, from Dave Hutt Photography, and Mark Fitzgerald from The Digital Darkroom for a daylong exploration into professional techniques that will help you work better behind the camera and in front of the computer. Find out what you need to know to start creating quality portraits that sell for more.

 

Studio Portrait Lighting and Posing

Morning Session taught by Dave Hutt

  • A hands-on, one-on-one experience in a fully equipped portrait studio.

  • Learn about Softboxes, speedrings, flash meters ,Rembrant lighting techniques, lighting ratios for controlling light and shadow, hair lights, creative posing in a full four-light studio.

  • Photograph a live model with your own camera.

  • Learn to determine perfect exposure & lighting ratios that digital requires.

  • Explore creative light modifying techniques with umbrellas, soft-boxes, dish reflectors, and more.

Lightroom and the Raw Workflow

Afternoon Session taught by Mark Fitzgerald

  • Learn to shoot tethered to a laptop using Lightroom so that you can see your photos as you shoot.

  • Use Lightroom 2 to process the photos you shoot during the morning session.

  • Learn about raw files and why they're important to the serious photographer.

  • Use Lightroom's Develop module to quickly bring out the best in your photos.

  • Find out how to use presets and synchronization to make your workflow efficient.

  • Explore simple, yet elegant presentation techniques using a projector and Lightroom.

  • Learn to create slideshows and web galleries that can be uploaded directly from Lightroom.

  • Quickly export files that are ready for print or email.

Prerequisites:

This presentation is intended for portrait photographers who are ready to move into the studio. You will need to bring your own DSLR. A laptop with Lightroom 2 installed on it is highly recommended. If you don't have access to a laptop, talk to us about helping you with a rental.

Number of students:

Registration is limited to 8 photographers.

Length of workshop:

9am to 5pm with a 1 hour break for lunch.
